RENEWS CONTRACT WITH THE CHICAGO

Doc Rivers agreed Friday to a contract extension for five years to continue as coach of the Boston Celtics.

The general manager, Danny Ainge made the announcement two days after the Celtics were eliminated from the playoffs by the Miami Heat.

Rivers said after Wednesday's loss to be leaning toward returning to the team. His contract expired at the end of the season.

"I think Doc is the best coach in the league. So it's great for us," Ainge said Friday at the team facility. "I would not have another person as a coach that was not Doc."

Rivers has coached the Celtics for the past seven years. He won the NBA title in 2008 and lost the final in 2010 before the Los Angeles Lakers.

The contract for five years and about $ 35 million gives Rivers a chance to see the end of the era of the "Big Three" _Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen_ and start rebuilding the franchise with more titles the NBA.

"Doc wants to be here. It is only because I believe that over the next five years will have the best team in the NBA," said Ainge. "He's part of this franchise, wants to do what is necessary for us to be successful."

Ainge promised some changes, and even refused to promise that the core team, the "Big Three" and the base Rajon Rondo, will be back for next season.

If everyone comes back, there may be changes in the way they are used, with the idea of \u200b\u200bkeeping the veterans more rested for the playoffs.
